Agencies on Aging
The Prince William Area Agency on aging
offers an array of services and social activities for older
residents. The office at 7987 Ashton Ave. in Manassas can
be reached at 792-6400. The senior centers are at 13850
Church Hill Drive, Woodbridge, 494-5136, and 9320 Mosby St.,
Manassas, 792-6405. To become a member of one of the
centers applicants must be at least 60 years old and must fill
out registration forms. Services offered to members through
the centers or the Agency on Aging include newsletters published
by each senior center containing information on activities at the
center. Those interested in volunteering for the agency and
the two senior centers can call 792-6400.
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels provides lunch to elderly
residents who are confined to their homes. Volunteers
deliver the meals. Applicants can call the agency and
request a home assessment to see if they qualify for the program.
Adult Day Care
Two adult day-care programs are offered through the Agency on
Aging. The east-end location is in the Ferlazzo Building,
15941 Cardinal Drive, Woodbridge, and operates Monday through
Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. A west end day care program operates
Monday through Friday at 8201 Ashton Ave., Manassas, from 8 a.m.
to 6 p.m. The program serves people who are especially
frail, disabled or who cannot care for themselves due to
conditions such as Alzheimer's disease. It is designed as
an alternative to nursing home care, providing families enough
assistance so that their older family members can remain in the
community. A home assessment by an agency staff member
determines eligibility. The senior centers ask for a $12 annual
registration fee to help offset operating costs. Those interested
in becoming volunteer workers for the agency and the two senior
centers may call 792-6400.
Nursing Homes
Prince William has three nursing
homes. Annaburg Manor, at 9201 Maple St, in Manassas, can
be reached at 335-8300.
Birmingham Green, at 8605 Centreville Road in Manassas, can be
reached by calling 257-0935, and the Cobblestones center, at 8341
Barrett Road, Manassas, is at 392-0102. |
